Building an icon and benchmark for sustainability in China
How does your garden grow, when it’s over 2,000 feet above the ground? We’re proud to have been part of Gensler’s remarkable challenge to vertical living, with one of the world’s first sustainable (and quite green) high-rise buildings.

WHAT WE DID
The Shanghai Tower is the tallest of three “super tall” skyscrapers in the Pudong financial center. The building was designed by Gensler for client Shanghai Tower Construction and Development Company and represents a landmark in sustainable high-rise architecture.
b. on brand’s collaboration with the design team included the development of the design principles, brand platform, naming, customer profiles, and the overall tone-of-voice as a LEED® certified building. We then collaborated on positioning virtually all of the building’s public spaces, including the exterior gardens, podium retail, hotel and condominiums, observation deck, and the extensive internal gardens that are a signature of this already iconic building.
Paramount to this project was positioning it as not simply another super-tall building but as an innovative approach to vertical living that emphasizes green technology and green living in dynamic and innovative way, ones that prove that green design can and should be both beautiful and sustainable.

NOTEWORTHY
The building is China’s first sustainable, high-rise experience and already a destination in the Pudong development area. It was awarded LEED® Gold certification.
